Exhibitions at the AVA Gallery, Clandeboye Estate in Bangor

15 April 2010 - 03 September 2010

Venue The Ava Gallery at Clandeboye Estate, Bangor

Dates "Lavery and the Glasgow Boys"  22nd May - 12th June and "The French connection"  16th August - 3rd September

Adam’s are delighted to announce that they are taking over the running of the Ava Gallery on the Clandeboye Estate and acknowledge the great support and encouragement we have received from The Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava, Lindy Guinness the owner of the estate.

After some structural building work the gallery will open full time in August in time for the Clandeboye Festival with Camerata Ireland. We will be opening with an exhibition called "The French Connection" based on French influences on Irish painters at the end of the 19th Century and early 20th Century, concentrating on those who studied and worked in France - mainly Brittany - and the rediscovery of Cork born painter Thomas Hovenden (1840 - 1895). This will probably be the first time works (2) by Hovenden, who became well known in America, will be exhibited in his native land. This show again will be drawn from private collections both North and South of the border with fine works by Walter Osborne, Roderic O'Conor, Nathaniel Hone, Aloysius O'Kelly, Stanhope Forbes, William John Hennessy and William J. Leech to name but a few. This exhibition is open 16th August - 3rd September and will then tour to The Hunt Museum,Limerick 9th Sept - 8th October.

Both of these exhibitions will give the general public access to iconic Irish pictures from private collections that they might know from illustrations in various publications on Irish Art but have never seen in reality, including Attending the Lobster Pots from the front cover of Paul Henry by S.B. Kennedy and various works from Ireland’s Painters by Anne Crookshank and the Knight of Glin, The Irish Impressionists by Julian Campbell and other well loved books.

The Fine Art Society London will be at the AVA Gallery in May with an exhibition "Lavery and the Glasgow Boys" to celebrate the publication of Prof. Kenneth Mc Conkey's "John Lavery: A painter and his world" Dates 22nd May - 12th June".
