Secret Garden Open Days
23
October 2006
The long-hidden Walled Garden, Bangor’s SECRET GARDEN,
from which the public have been excluded for around 160
years, opened its gates for just two afternoons earlier
this month.
The Walled Garden was created by the Ward family in the
1840s and acquired by the Council in the mid-1940s, at which
time it was used as a production nursery. The Council is
keen to restore this hidden treasure of horticultural history,
but wants to hear the ideas of local people first.
On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October, the three-acre
garden opened to give the public the opportunity to visit
the walled garden site, view the current restoration plans
and hear more about how this restoration would fit within
Council’s overall investment scheme for new facilities
for the Borough. A number of horticultural and environmental
experts will be on hand to discuss the proposals.
Various images of the garden and artists’ impressions
of how the garden might look may be accessed through the
links below along with a location map of Bangor Castle Walled
Garden, Valentine Road, Bangor.
