Talking Rubbish
20 November 2007
Do you remember a rubbish dump at a site on the Old Belfast
Road or at Ward Arras Park?
Do you remember when binmen carried bins over their shoulder
to the lorry?
Do you remember the days before we had refuse collection
services and people had very little to throw away?
In anticipation of opening the new household recycling
centre, Council is creating a ‘Memory Box’ about
how rubbish was dealt with in the past.
If you have any memories you would like to share or any
old photographs, we would love to hear from you. If you
were once a binman and remember how it was in the 1940s/50s,
please let us know.
