Hill Elected Mayor of North Down

At North Down Borough Council's Annual Meeting on Thursday
11 June, Councillor Tony Hill was unanimously elected Mayor
of North Down for 2008/09.
Alderman Gordon Dunne was elected Deputy Mayor.
Speaking at the meeting Mayor Hill said: “I am delighted
to accept this honour. The lady mayoress and I will endeavour
to work on behalf of everyone in the Borough during the
year ahead.
"I would like to thank all members for their support
and would commend the outgoing Mayor and Deputy Mayor for
the work they have done over the past year. Alderman Leslie
Cree will be a hard act to follow as Mayor.
"First and foremost, I hope to enjoy my year as Mayor.
I look forward to seeing progress towards the realisation
of the Marine Gardens proposals, announced by Social Development
Minister, Margaret Ritchie yesterday. I also look forward
to seeing progress made on the Borough's new Leisure Centre
at Valentine Playing Fields.
"I will also be seeking to persue our Christain Heritage
links with Bobbio in Italy and Bregenz in Austria.
"I look forward to working with all members of Council
to make the year ahead a great success for North Down."
