Congratulations Rory
22 June 2011
Following his phenomenal win at the US Open on Sunday, Holywood is looking forward to welcoming Rory McIlroy home.
North Down Borough Council has offered to assist with an open-top bus parade and homecoming reception at a time that suits the new US Open champion. As yet dates and times for such celebrations have not been confirmed but details will be released as soon as they are available.
As far as the Council is aware there are no public celebrations planned in Holywood today (Wednesday 22 June).
Commenting on the young golfer's success, Mayor of North Down, Councillor James McKerrow said:
"Everybody in North Down is mighty pleased and proud that Rory McIlroy has bagged his first major...and achieved such as impressive win. Golf is strong in North Down, with seven courses and youth programmes in many clubs and schools.
Rory is doing what he likes best, playing golf. At the weekend, at the US Open, his best was clearly the best in the whole wide world.
300 million Americans must be wondering what on earth they have to do to get their cup back from 1.7 Northern Irish after back to back wins in our wee country!"
